Founded in 1896, we have become a bold and adventurous 21st century library driven by a commitment to access for all.

Ranging in size for four to 300 people, the State Library of Queensland venue hire facilities offer a range of meeting rooms and auditoriums for your next meeting, conference, product launch, wedding reception or special function.State Library of Queensland plays a lead role in serving all Queenslanders, through state-wide library services and partnerships with over 340 public libraries, including 23 Indigenous Knowledge Centres (IKCs)

SLQ belongs to the people of Queensland. It is an inclusive and welcoming place for all, a trusted source for information, and a place for intellectual freedom, a cornerstone of democracy and custodian of Queensland’s memory.SLQ is a ‘knowledge bank’ and vital community resource, as much a physical as well as a virtual place for sharing, learning, collaborating, and creation. As a community hub for democracy in action, here everyone is encouraged to have a voice.

State Library of Queensland's collections comprise a rich and diverse range of books, journals and magazines, newspapers, manuscripts and archives, maps, rare books, music, photographs, films and videos, e-resources and more.The arts and design collections of SLQ contain a broad selection of materials relating to the world history of art from pre-history to the present day. The collection strength of 19th and 20th century Western art resources is complemented by the contemporary resources of the Asia Pacific Design Library and the specialist collections about Australian art and bookarts that comprise the Australian Library of Art: the James Hardie Library of Australian Fine Art, The Lindsay Collection of Pat Corrigan, The History and Art of the Book Collection and the Artists’ Book Collection.
