Mental Health First Aid for the Suicidal Person 

Introduction

Launched on World Mental Health Day, 10 October 2016, this course is based on the revised Mental Health Guidelines for Suicidal Thoughts and Behaviours and teaches you how to give first aid to someone who is feeling suicidal.

Content

Curriculum content is based on expert consensus guidelines developed with the Delphi method using both professional and consumer experts from English speaking developed countries. Learning outcomes of the course include:

  • understanding accurate information about suicide rates and risk factors in the Australian context
  • reviewing the first aid guidelines of how to intervene when someone is experiencing suicidal thoughts and behaviours
  • practicing these skills in a safe environment. 

Format

The course consists of four hours of face-to-face training. Participants receive a handbook to keep and a digital Certificate of Completion.

Doula has over 25 years of experience as a return to work consultant, providing education, return to work services, project management and quality assurance programs to a number of private organisations and government sector clients.

Doula has a particular interest and is skilled in mental health first aid and workplace wellbeing. As a qualified trainer, Doula is committed to teaching people how to be the best they can and achieve their real potential both at work and in their personal health management. Workplace wellbeing and resilience are key areas of Doula’s training delivery and essential to all healthy workplaces. She is well received and in demand, largely due to her ability to build rapport and adapt her skills and interest to enable a tailored approach to client’s needs.

Doula introduced Mental Health First Aid training to South Australia in 2004 and remains focused on her goal of seeing a qualified Mental Health First Aid Officer in every workplace.
