Benign Breast Disease Symposium 2016
Saturday 12th November 2016

Epworth HealthCare's General Surgery & Gastroenterology Clinical Institute presents the Benign Breast Disease Symposium 2016

The vast majority of breast conditions are benign. Much attention is focused on malignant lesions of the breast because breast cancer is the most common malignancy in women, however benign conditions actually constitute 90% or more of the clinical problems related to the breast. With the use of modern imaging and the extensive use of needle biopsies, the diagnosis of a benign breast condition can be accomplished without surgery in the majority of patients. Some benign breast conditions point to an increase in the patient’s future risk of developing breast cancer and should lead to counselling about screening recommendations and risk reduction strategies.

This symposium will review the evaluation of breast symptoms and the diagnosis and management of benign breast disorders. It has been designed for clinicians (general practitioners and surgeons) nurses, allied health professionals and anyone with an interest in the diagnosis and management of breast disease. The faculty is made up of breast surgeons from Epworth Richmond, Freemasons, Cliveden, Eastern and Geelong.
